  • Overview

    There is one opening for a Computer Support Technician with the Yakima County Technology Services Department in the Sunnyside, WA location.  This position is responsible for performing a variety of routine technical activities, involving the recommendation, installation, configuration, maintenance and repair of personal computer equipment, software, peripherals and telephones and provides technical advice and assistance to personal computer users.


    This recruitment could be used to fill full and part-time jobs that occur within 90 days of the closing date of this position.


    Diagnose and fix system hardware, software and end user problems. Consults with client, identifies and troubleshoots probloem, evaluates the solution and provides reommendation on to repair or replace equipment.


    Provides technical advice and assistance to users, in person or on the phone, regarding the use of personal computers, software and peripheral equipment. Researches the question by contacting vendors or using online technical chat sites and provides training solutions to customer’s problem.  


    Sets up, installs and configures computer systems, hand held devices, printers, scanner / copiers,   components , electronic equipment and related software ordered by client.


    Receives, logs, and monitors “help desk” tickets from users reporting service problems or a need for services; Assigns priority and completes.


    Establish security to ensure protection of County assets by monitoring machines to ensure antivirus software is running and up to date, and install if appropriate; isolating machines from the network and removing unauthorized software as discovered.


     Manage users, groups and computers to ensure security of assets.


    Performs other duties as assigned.



    Experience and Training:  Associate's degree or Two Year Technical Certificate in a related field AND two (2) years of computer related experience in troubleshooting, repair and/or installation; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling four (4) years which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.



    Valid WA State Driver's License (or the ability to obtain one) and proof of insurance

    Successful completion of a criminal background check prior to employment.


    This is a Teamsters Local #760 Bargaining Unit position. As a condition of employment you are required to become a member of the Unit or pay representation fees per the negotiated contract.

    Equipment Used:

    Telephone, Copy Machine, Fax Machine, Voice Mail, Computer, Tablet, iPhone, Computer hand tools; Software such as Microsoft Word/Excel/Access; report printer; shredder and other standard office equipment. Passenger vehicle.


    Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

    Duties are performed in an office setting, network closets, machine rooms, in facilities throughout the County; inter-county travel for meetings and/or site surveys is essential, and long distance travel may be required for training or meetings. May be required to install telephony and network equipment in tight quarters. There is a potential risk of electrical shock. May occasionally work near moving mechanical ports. Requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, lifting, reaching, mobility, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.


    Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.


    Knowledge: (Upon entry)

    Computer hardware and software programs including Microsoft operating systems and applications; configurations and peripherals used including printers and modems; operating systems and applications software typically used with personal computers; hardware and software troubleshooting techniques; customer service techniques; and phone etiquette.



    Skills and Abilities (Upon entry):

    Troubleshooting computer hardware and software problems; setting up PC hardware and peripherals; installing and configuring PC software; installing voice communication systems; time management; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff at all organizational levels and with the public; and oral and written communication sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give instruction and receive work direction.
