  • Overview

    There is one opening with the Yakima County Technology Services Department.  The position is responsible for ensuring the reliability and availability of all databases in use within the County such as the Assessor/Treasurer Ascend System, Clerk Case Management Database, Public Services Permitting Database and other SQL Databases. This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that may occur within 90 days of the closing of this posting.

    Responsibilities

    Responsible for the installation, maintenance and operation of Yakima County System SQL Databases. Calculates each systems requirements, identifies the database structure for operational flaws and effect on current systems. 

     

    Plans, designs, coordinates and facilitates the data migration from older database system to new systems as well as the migration of data to subsystems in order for County Departments to use newer, more efficient computer applications.

     

    Assesses maintenance necessary to achieve maximum system performance and determines the best method for updating. Establishes internal retention requirements to assist in rapid restoration in the event of system failures.

     

    Utilizes problem solving to trouble shoot, analyze and resolve county wide system issues. Provides senior level database and system expertise, consultation, leadership and training to Technology Services staff. Advises Manager regarding proposed solutions and application vendors and other agency professionals of proper database administration as needed.

     

    Responsible for supervising and providing direction to assigned staff in their daily maintenance and operation of all computer applications; provides direction and consult for various system administrative tasks. Evaluates work performance and identifies training recommendations to management.

     

    Designs, implements and maintains custom SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports for clients. Strategies design, data structure, layout and data components that will provide information for clients.

     

    Writes very SQL queries to extract needed data, tests data and determines how to implement the reports into production. Provides instructions and training to clients.

     

    Determines, develops, modifies and maintains operational procedures, proposal specifications, security levels, and appropriate documentation.

     

    Plan, install and configure new SQL Server instances for new computer applications.

     

    Other duties as assigned.

     

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    Experience and Training:

    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related and 5 years of SQL database administration and SQL Reporting Services report writing experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

     

    Required:

    Successful completion of criminal background investigation.

     

    Valid WA State Driver's License (or the ability to obtain one) and proof of insurance.

     

    Proven work experience with the following: SQL Database administration and SQL Reporting Services report writing experience.

     

    A written SQL Server exercise will be required as part of the interview process.

     

    This is a Teamsters Local #760 Bargaining Unit position. As a condition of employment you are required to become a member of the Unit or pay representation fees per the negotiated contract.  In addition, contributions as a member of the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust are required for each compensable hour paid per the negotiated contract.

    Working Conditions:

    Equipment Used:  Telephone, copy machine, fax machine, voice mail, computer, PDA, tablet, printer, scanner, various SQL server and application hardware and software.

     

    Required Knowledge and Skill:

     

    Knowledge:  Computer operations; advanced level of knowledge of SQL Server; SQL Server tool set; research methods and analysis techniques; advanced level of knowledge of server/PC hardware and software troubleshooting techniques; and customer service principles and techniques. Advanced level of knowledge of the 5 rules of data normalization. Advanced level of knowledge of defragmentation in Sql Server databases.

     

    Skills (and abilities):
