  • Overview


    There is one extra-help opening with the Yakima County Noxious Weed Department.  This position aids the Maintenance Specialist  with the maintenance and removal of noxious weeds/ vegetation.  The position will work for a period of no more than 650 hours a year either part-time or full-time on an on-call, as needed basis.  This recruitment could be used to fill extra help openings that occur within 90 days of the closing date of this posting. 





    Essential Job Functions:
    Performs manual labor and operates equipment under supervision to clear and eliminate noxious weeds.


    Assist the Maintenance Technician with preparing vehicle for the field.

    Other Job Functions:
    Performs other job related duties as required.


    Experience and Training:
    A High School Diploma or general Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) and one year of relevant experience OR  any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.


    Valid WA State Drivers License with proof of insurance


    Equipment Used:
    4 X 4 truck, back pack & motorized sprayer, hand tools ie. shovel, canoe, person protective equipment:  gloves,  eyeware, dust masks, and life vests.


    Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
    Heavy Work:  Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  May be required to stand, sit, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, bend, reach, handle, climb, balance, kneel.

    Exposure to pesticides, motorized hand equipment such as spray equipment. Required to work from /in canoe in river, ponds and tributaries


    Knowledge: (Upon entry)
    Ability to operate a passenger truck / vehicle; knowledge of how to operate pesticide equipment such as a back sprayer.

    Ability to use / steer canoe


    Skills (and abilities): (Upon entry)
    Communication, both oral and written, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction, ie. follow instructions ie. read herbicide labels.
