  • Overview

     

    The Yakima County Facilities Services Department is creating a call list to perform routine maintenance activities related to the cleaning and maintenance of County buildings and operating related equipment. Work hours are 4:00 pm – 12:30 am. 

     

    Initial screening of applicants will take place on Thursday, April 12, 2018 or when the hiring authority determines a sufficient applicant pool has been established.  Subsequent screenings will take place periodically throughout the recruitment based on the needs of the department. 

     

    This recruitment may be used to fill extra help, intermittent on-call openings that may occur in the 90 days after closing.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Job Functions:

    Sanitizes restrooms, cleans and sanitizes kitchens, prepares chemical solutions applying safety precautions.

     

    Performs cleaning activities such as sweeping; vacuuming, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing and sealing floors, carpet extracting, fixture dusting and emptying of trash cans.

     

    Performs a variety of routine activities in operating cleaning equipment such as floor buffer, power floor scrubber, and vacuum. Performs operational checks and reports needed repairs.

     

    Disposes of waste in a safe and appropriate manner; places waste in recycling containers or regular dumpsters.

     

    Opens and closes facilities; attends pre-shift staff meetings and safety trainings.

     

    Other Job Functions:

    Performs other duties as assigned including responding to customer inquiries, and assisting with less routine maintenance tasks.

    Qualifications

      

    Experience and Training:

    High School or (G.E.D.) and one year of institutional maintenance or janitorial experience. OR equivalent training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

     

    Required:

    WA State driver’s license at time of appointment.

    Employment offers will be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.

     

    Equipment Operated:

    Common janitorial equipment such as brooms, mops, floor scrubbers, floor buffers, vacuums and small hand or power tools.

     

    Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

    Duties are performed in county facility during a swing-shift and may be in secure correctional facilities. Work involves exposure to chemicals on a regular basis. Position requires: climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping, reaching, standing, mobility, fingering, grasping, seeing and repetitive motions. Rated as Heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    Knowledge of:

    Cleaning equipment, materials and techniques;

    Basic equipment use and maintenance techniques;

    Safety precautions related to facilities maintenance;

    Customer Service techniques;

    Work planning and time management techniques.

     

    Skills (and abilities) in:

    Performing routine maintenance activities using hand and power tools

    Operating vehicles requiring less than a commercial driver’s license;

    Applying customer service techniques;

    Calculating measurements;

    Organizing and planning daily work;

    Oral and written communication sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction; and

    Establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels and with the public.
