There is one Extra Help, On-Call, Temporary opening with the Yakima County Public Services administration Division. This position serves as the initial contact of the Public Services Department for customers requiring assistance via telephone and in person. Provides office support to the Department including document receipt and distribution, dissemination of complex information, operating specialized computer systems; and other duties as assigned. This recruitment may be used to fill future openings which may occur within 90 days of the posted closing date.
This position requires a typing test with a minimum of 35 net wpm to be taken in Yakima County Human Resources, 128 N 2nd Street, Room B-27. This must be completed by 3:30pm on the closing date.
Greets, answers and directs public inquiries made in person to appropriate staff or division (Planning, DSC, Building and Fire Safety, Transportation and Environmental Services) within the Public Services Department. Tracks calendars and schedules appointments including responsibility for ensuring that schedules are coordinated. Works in both the front desk greeting or phone work stations. Provides specialized assistance such as translation to/from English/Spanish, assisting customers in an area in which the incumbent has more specialized knowledge; and issuing various moving permits, certificates or notices requiring knowledge of legal procedures.
Copy and mail a variety of documents for the Department. Receive, pick up, sort and distribute mail and other documents.
Performs technical support duties under direction such as drafting or translating documents, proof-reading for accuracy and making changes as needed; assisting in technical projects; issuing moving permits, replying to requests and/or complaints; processing Fire/Life inspection documents and logging invoices in the financial accounting system; logging inspections in the Tidemark computer system, answering bid result inquiries, issuing certificates of occupancy, or monitoring Conditional Use files for annual renewal; and coordinating building inspection schedules.
Performs financial support duties such as preparing purchase requisitions or billing forms; selling plans and specifications and writing receipts; or completing deposit transactions.
Participates in maintaining the office file system, purges old files, retrieves archived files, and applies records retention timelines to different file types. Pulls and files documents ensuring files remain in the proper order; route files or documents as needed.
Perform other clerical duties as assigned. E.g., arranging for office equipment repairs, scheduling meetings, maintaining supply of forms.
Experience and Training: High School Diploma or G.E.D. and (2) two years clerical experience or training beyond high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties the job.
Required: Typing/Keyboarding speed of 35 wpm.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel are preferred.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Working Conditions: Duties are performed in an office setting; confidentiality is a requirement. Determining the questions and addressing the solution often encompasses complex data dissemination and policy issues. Client contact is sometimes hostile. Requires: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, mobility, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting, most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
